He stumbled back to the gryffin, humiliated and in pain. It carried him back to the castle, where he laboriously made his way back to the empress, terrified of what would happen when she found out of his failings.

He had the wind momentarily knocked out of him, but after a second of laying motionless on the floor, he began to sit up. "Please," he gasped as he crawled back towards her. "The others found her and attacked."

Her stare could have pierced someone's soul. "Fine," she hissed, pulling a dagger out of her sleeve. She took it and backhanded him across the cheek, leaving a trail of blood. She turned and walked back to her thrown, sitting down and thinking.
